Naming Rules

Entity Type	Rules
VM Names	• May only contain letters (a–z, A–Z), numbers (0–9), hyphens (-), and periods (.) • Must begin with a letter • Must not end with punctuation • Must not contain consecutive punctuation
Snapshot Names	• May only contain letters (a–z, A–Z), numbers (0–9), hyphens (-), and underscores (_) • May contain a maximum of 40 characters • Must begin with a letter
Bridge Names	• May only contain letters (a–z, A–Z) and underscores (_) • May contain a maximum of 10 characters • Must begin with a letter

Proxmox VE relies primarily on the VM ID for identifying virtual machines. While virtual machines can share the same name in Proxmox VE, NDG advises assigning unique names to each VM for clarity and ease of management.
